What pages does a small business website need?
By Amy Simpfenderfer ·
You don't need a huge website to win customers. Most small businesses do best with five clear pages, each with one job. Here's what I recommend, and what belongs on each.
1. Home
In a few seconds, your homepage should answer three questions: what you do, who it's for and what to do next. Lead with a clear headline, show your best work or products, and give visitors one obvious button, like "Book a call" or "Shop now."
2. About
People buy from people. Share your story, why you started, and what makes working with you different. A real photo of you or your team builds more trust than any stock image.
3. Services or shop
List what you offer in plain language. For services, include what's included, who it's for and, if you can, a starting price. Clear pricing filters out poor fits and gives good clients the confidence to reach out.
4. Work, results or reviews
Show proof. That might be a portfolio, before and after photos, case studies or client reviews. Visitors want to see that you've done this before and done it well.
5. Contact
Make it easy to reach you with a short form, your email, and your location or service area if it matters. Tell people what happens next, for example, "I'll reply within one business day."
Nice to have
- FAQs answer common questions before they're asked and help you show up in search.
- A blog or journal gives Google more reasons to send people your way. Even a few helpful posts make a difference.
